Celebrating the New Year

We have been learning about the Lunar New Year in class, sharing personal stories about how our classmates celebrate with their families.  We have been reading storybooks and non-fiction texts, then having discussions, to support our learning.  One story which inspired our art work was, The Legend of the Chinese Dragon.

Here are some of our dragons.

Through these learning opportunities we have been comparing celebrations and thinking about they are alike and different.

On Friday, children wore red, to bring luck for the new year.

We also made some Chinese dumplings in class as part of our class celebration.

Students make drawings for their own procedural writing work, beginning with the ingredients and tools then the steps.

The official recipe is available on our classroom recipe page.

Happy New Year
