Our students spent time in April learning about Earth Day. We discussed how they could help the Earth, both in our classroom and at home. Our learning started with a great book called, 10 Things I Can Do To Help My World. Some of our friends made signs to remind our friends and family to “Turn off the Lights.”
Later we read some books about the importance of recycling and composting, making charts to sort our lunch foods into the correct bins. We even learned a new song called, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
Some of our friends even made some art using reused materials we got from other teachers and our own blue box.
Last Friday on Earth Day, students met our community gardener, who showed us some of the creepy crawlers from his compost bin.
We also added an Earth Day messages to a school display board, such as Turn off the water, Save Water, Turn off the Lights, Turn off the T.V.,
This week we helped the earth by planting flowers and trees for the special people in our families. We are trying to grow some Morning Glory flowers and avocado trees from the pits collected by Mrs. Gutierrez. We even added some great compost materials Ms. Cardarelli had at home to our plants to help them grow.
