As we were getting to know each other in Kindergarten we shared with peers, who we were, who was in our family, what we liked to do and eat. As we were learning our names, and our peers, students carried out various art projects, that helped them practice their names, using stickers, pasta and then writing about who they were.
Some of this writing we have turned into a class book, that we can read. It also contains pictures of various staff members, so students can learn who they are as well.
Later our class discussed making our own self-portrait and the body parts we would need to include. Then we read My Many Coloured Days by Dr. Seuss and talked about how colour could communicate ones feeling to others. After our students created self-portraits using pastels, selecting colours for themselves their backgrounds that communicated their feelings. Finally students shared their portraits with each other, explaining their artistic choices. Some students shared that they chose certain colours because they made them happy or showed they were excited. Here are some of their masterpieces.
