Valentine Celebrations

On Friday, February 14th we had a small Valentine’s IMG_4362[1]Day celebration in our class.  Students brought Valentine cards, to share with their friends.  Treats were provided in class and students got to make them at our cooking centre.  The recipe for the Mars Bar squares will be available to all families on the class recipe page.  Students looked fabulous that day, dressed in their “Valentine’s colours.”

IMG_4361[1]Students had been preparing Valentine’s work of their own, decorating their Valentine’s bags with different craft materials and making cards using pastels and food colouring.  Please forgive the blue/red/yellow fingers that have been home.  The children thoroughly enjoyed this messy art project.  Later we turned their creations into cards IMG_4360[1]for their loved ones.

These creative endeavors are all related to our new “Big Idea.”  We will be focusing on celebrations that take place in our community, learning about familiar and new ones and relating them to one another.  We will use literature, non-fiction, media, discussions, music and creative projects to do this during the second term.
