This week we have been learning about what living things need. Our class been observing our living things in class; our plants and caterpillars and comparing their needs to animals and people.
When you make a trip to the public library this month consider taking out books on and reading about a living thing that interests your child. Think about the needs of the living thing you are reading about and any special characteristics they might have.
Have your child then sit on the “hot seat” and answer our “Big Idea” thinking question, What do you know about living things?
Below is the checklist of criteria we have developed in class so far.
Later we will consider why living things are important.
Some of the books we have been reading this week were by favourite authors and some by new ones. They included: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Caryle, Mole and the Baby Bird by Marjorie Newman, Sophie’s Fish by A.E. Cannon, The Little Red Hen (makes a pizza) by Philemon Sturges and Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.
They were all a hit!
